To optimize Win7 system, please turn off these services.

2023-03-27 Source:

When the system starts up, it will start some functions and services by default. This service is of little use to users and will occupy the system. If the configuration is poor, lags will occur. So what services can be turned off in Win7 system? How to close it? The editor below will share with you which services can be disabled from starting in Win7.

The details are as follows:

How to view services in Win7 system: click Start - Run - enter services.msc - press Enter.

 1. Application Management

This service is mainly suitable for centralized management in large enterprise environments. It will have no effect if ordinary users turn it off. The system defaults to "manual" mode, which needs to be triggered to run. It doesn't matter if it is not set.

 2. Background Intelligent Transfer Service

 Transfers data between the client and the server in the background. If BITS is disabled, some features, such as Windows Update, will not function properly. The default running mode of this service is automatic. If you do not use Windows Updata to update your system, you can turn it off, otherwise the default is enough;

 3. Adaptive brightness

Monitor the surrounding light conditions to adjust the screen brightness. If the service is disabled, the screen brightness will not automatically adapt to the surrounding light conditions. The default operation mode of this service is manual. If you do not use a device such as a touch screen to intelligently adjust the screen brightness, this function can be safely disabled.

4. Application Layer Gateway Service

The system comes with a firewall and a dependent service for enabling ICS shared Internet access. If a third-party firewall is installed and you do not need to use ICS to share the Internet, you can completely disable it. This service also exists in XP/Vista and has the same function.

5. Base Filtering Engine

It also provides dependent services for the system firewall, VPN and IPsec, and is also a system security service. If you use third-party VPN dial-up software and do not use the system's firewall and ICS to share the Internet, for the sake of system resources, turn it off, otherwise leave it alone.

 6. BitLocker Drive Encryption Service

Provides BitLocker client service to the user interface and automatically unlocks the data volume. The default running mode of this service is manual, and if you are not using a BitLocker device, this feature can be safely disabled.

7. Certificate Propagation

This service provides certificate services for smart cards. The default is manual. If you do not use smart cards, you can disable it, but manual is not a problem.

 8. CNG Key Isolation

The CNG key isolation service is hosted in the LSA process. As required by general principles, the service provides key process isolation for private keys and related cryptographic operations. The service stores and uses long-lived keys in a secure process consistent with general principles. It is recommended that automatic wired network configuration and wireless networks not be used can be turned off.

 9. Computer Browser

It is a service item used in the LAN to automatically search for online neighbors. If you do not use the LAN, this service item can be completely disabled.

 10. Block Level Backup Engine Service

Windows Backup uses the WBENGINE service to perform backup and recovery operations. If a user stops this service, this may cause currently running backup or restore operations to fail. If you don’t use the backup and recovery function of win7 system, you can completely turn it off. Now GHOST is the best tool for backup.

 11. Bluetooth Support Service

Bluetooth device support, if you don’t use Bluetooth, then turn it off. < p >

 13. Diagnostic Service Host

This is a service that helps the Diagnostic Policy Service above to do specific things. It will be started as the above service and can be turned off together.

 14. Diagnostic System Host

It is basically the same type as the Diagnostic Policy Service/Diagnostic Service Host and can be turned off together.

15. Distributed Link Tracking Client:

Enables a client program to track the movement of linked files, including moves within the same NTFS volume, to another NTFS on the same computer, or to NTFS on another computer. If this service is disabled, links will not be maintained or tracked on this computer. If this service is disabled, any services that depend on it will not be enabled. After testing, this function is only useful in a domain environment. If your win7 system is not in a domain environment, it can be turned off.

 16. Distributed Transaction Coordinator

Many applications and server software such as SQL and Exchange Biztalk rely on this service. It is manually enabled by default and is generally not disabled.

 17. Extensible Authentication Protocol

If you do not need 802.1x authentication, wireless network or VPN, you can not enable it and do not Disable it.

 18. Fax

The fax service in the win7 system, the editor rarely sees people using computers to send faxes. I believe you are not using it, so disable it.

 19. Function Discovery Provider Host

FDPHOST service carries the Function Discovery (FD) network discovery provider. These FD providers provide network discovery services for the Simple Service Discovery Protocol (SSDP) and Web Services Discovery (WS-D) protocols. Stopping or disabling the FDPHOST service when using FD will disable network discovery for these protocols. When this service is unavailable, network services that use FD and rely on these discovery protocols will be unable to find the network service or resource. PnP-X is related to SSDP. If there are no related devices, just disable it.

 20. Function Discovery Resource Publication

PnP-X is related to SSDP. If there is no related equipment, just turn it off.

 21. HomeGroup Listener

Provides receiving services for home groups. The default operation mode of this service is manual. If you do not use home groups to share pictures, videos and documents, then this service can be disabled.

 22. HomeGroup Provider

It also serves the home group. It is the same as item 21. If you do not use the home group, you can disable it.

23. Human Interface Device Access

Human interface device access is used to support function keys or some relatively "simple" devices. For example, the volume control on your keyboard or the like is basically of no use. You can disable close if not needed. Of course, game controllers also need its support.

 24. IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules

It can be disabled if you do not use a VPN or use a third-party VPN for dial-up.

 25. Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)

If you do not plan to let this computer act as an ICS host, then this service can be disabled, otherwise it needs to be enabled.

26. IP Helper

A service that makes IPv4 and IPv6 compatible with each other. Currently, it is not very necessary because IPv6 is not popular. You can turn it off if you don’t need it.

 27. IPsec Policy Agent

Some companies’ network environments require that it be turned on. It provides an end-to-end secure connection between the client and the server on the TCP/IP network. In other cases, it is recommended to set it to disabled.

 28. Microsoft iSCSI Initiator Service

If the local machine does not have an iSCSI device and does not need to connect and access remote iSCSI devices, set it to disabled.

 29. Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider

Manages software-based disk volume shadow copies obtained by the disk volume shadow copy service. If this service is stopped, software-based shadow copies of disk volumes cannot be managed. If you disable this service, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

Supplement: As mentioned above, services used for backup, such as MS Backup program, require this service

Dependency: Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

Recommendation: Disabled

 31. KtmRm for Distributed Transaction Coordinator

Coordinates transactions between MSDTC and the Core Transaction Manager (KTM). Another transaction service provided by Vista is more useful for developers. For general users or non-developers, it can be set to manual.

32. Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper

Create a network map, which consists of PC and device topology (connection) information and metadata describing each PC and device. If this service is disabled, network mapping will not work properly.

It should support LLTD (LinkLayerTopologyDiscovery) technology, which can accurately display the location of devices that support LLTD in the network structure, such as Vista's wireless map. Keep the default manual.
